In times like these, knowing how to keep doing business and stay positive with all the negative news out there can be challenging. Nicole Suresky, founder, chief strategy officer and executive producer of The Event Catalyst, provided six tips on how to survive and thrive in in the current economy in her session, "Recession Proofing your Event Planning." Here are her tips:

1. Be strategic. Being business-minded is the key to surviving and thriving.
2. Educate the client as to what value is. Show that you know how to do events right.
3. Be a solution. Clients pay for solutions, especially during times like these.
4. See the opportunity. Refuse to participate in the recession.
5. Be flexible -- for yourself. Work with your client.
6. Take care of yourself -- or there will be no one to recession-proof your job for you.
